Kitchen Design

Great kitchens are decided on paper. We resolve the working layout, storage, and light first, then design cabinetry, stone, and hardware you’ll be glad you chose in ten years — a complete design package you can build with anyone.

The Vision

Every decision made visible before the work begins.

You receive a coordinated design package with layouts, elevations, visualization, selections, and the documentation needed to price and build confidently.

What’s Included

A Complete, Considered Scope

01

Space planning

We start with how you cook, clean, entertain, and store, then map work zones, clearances, and traffic so two people can work without colliding and guests can gather without getting in the way. Islands, pantries, and appliances are placed to support the way your household actually uses the room.

02

3D design + drawings

Photoreal 3D views let you walk the kitchen before committing, from the sightline at the front door to the view from the sink. You can see how cabinetry heights, island size, and lighting feel in the space, and make changes while they are still easy and inexpensive.

03

Material + finish selection

Cabinetry, stone, tile, and hardware are chosen together and reviewed in your own light, so the palette works at midday and after dark. Selections are coordinated with flooring and adjacent rooms, keeping the kitchen connected to the rest of the house.

04

Documentation + budget

The final package includes dimensioned plans, elevations, a lighting and electrical layout, and a full finish schedule, precise enough to price and build from. An itemized budget range is attached, so every selection is made knowing what it costs.

The Design Process

How a kitchen design comes together.

A kitchen has more moving parts than any other room: appliances, plumbing, ventilation, lighting, storage, and the way people move through it. Our process settles those decisions in order, so each choice builds on the last and nothing is left to be figured out on the job site.

Discovery + measure.

We talk through how you cook and live, what works in your current kitchen, and what doesn’t. Then we measure the room carefully, noting windows, walls, plumbing, venting, and any conditions that will shape the layout.

Layout + 3D.

We develop layout options and refine the strongest one in plan, elevation, and photoreal 3D. You review the kitchen from every angle, and we adjust storage, lighting, and proportions until the design feels right.

Selections + documents.

Cabinetry, counters, tile, fixtures, and hardware are finalized and reviewed in your light. The drawing set and itemized budget are completed, giving you a coordinated package ready to price and build.

From closed galley to open kitchen.

The Distefano kitchen began as a dated galley with a separate refrigerator wall. The design opened the plan and centered the room on a waterfall island with an integrated cooktop, bringing kitchen and dining together. Every decision was resolved on paper before construction began.

Kitchen Design Questions

Kitchen design, answered.

More answers for homeowners planning a new kitchen. If yours isn’t here, bring it to your free consultation. We’re always happy to talk through any part of your new kitchen project.

What’s included in a kitchen design package?

Dimensioned plans and elevations, a lighting and electrical layout, photoreal 3D, a full cabinetry and finish schedule, and an itemized budget range — enough to build from with us or another contractor.

Can you design around appliances I already own or want?

Yes. We plan the layout around your specific range, refrigerator, and any specialty appliances from the start, so clearances and cabinetry are drawn to fit — not adjusted on site.

How do you handle small or closed-off Tucson kitchens?

We study whether a wall can come down, where light enters, and how you move through the room before proposing a layout. Often the biggest gain is borrowing space from an adjacent room rather than adding square footage.

Will I be able to picture the kitchen before committing?

Yes — we produce photoreal 3D views so you can walk the room and review every material in your own light before anything is ordered.

Do you provide a realistic budget with the design?

Always. An honest, itemized budget range is part of the deliverable, so you make finish decisions knowing what they cost.

How long does kitchen design take?

It depends on the scope and how quickly selections are made. We give you a realistic design schedule at the start, with clear milestones for layout, 3D review, and final documents.

Do I need to know my style before we start?

No. Many clients start with a few photos or a sense of what they dislike. We help you define a direction, then test it in 3D and with real samples.

Can you design an island that works for cooking and seating?

Yes. We size the island for prep space, seating, and clearances, and decide whether it should hold a sink, cooktop, or storage based on how you use the kitchen.

How do you plan kitchen lighting?

Lighting is layered: ambient light, task lighting at the counters, and accent lighting where it adds warmth. The lighting and electrical layout is part of the drawing set.

Can the kitchen connect to dining and living areas?

Yes. We plan sightlines, finishes, and transitions so the kitchen feels connected to adjacent rooms, whether the plan is fully open or partially separated.

What should I bring to the first meeting?

Photos you like, a list of what frustrates you about your current kitchen, and any appliances you plan to keep. We’ll handle the measuring and the rest.

Can you plan a kitchen for aging in place?

Yes. Drawers instead of deep base cabinets, comfortable counter heights, good task lighting, and clear floor space can be built in without making the kitchen feel clinical.

How do you keep a kitchen from feeling dated?

We favor proportion, good materials, and restraint over trends, and save bolder choices for elements that are easier to change later, like hardware, lighting, or paint.

Do you plan ventilation for ranges and island cooktops?

Yes. Hood size, placement, and ducting are planned with the layout, so ventilation works well and looks intentional, whether it sits over a wall range or an island cooktop.
