Bathroom Remodeling in Tucson

Central Tucson’s original bathrooms are usually small, single, and dated — full of potential once the walls come off.

Designed for Tucson

Local Context Shapes Every Decision.

In midtown and historic homes we frequently rebuild over old slab plumbing and correct waterproofing that was never meant to last, then finish with tile and fixtures suited to the character of the house. The aim is a bath that feels era-appropriate but performs like new, with none of the moisture problems these older rooms tend to hide.

What’s Included

A Complete, Considered Scope

01

Full tear-out

Older Tucson baths often hide cast-iron or galvanized lines, tile set in mortar beds, and showers that were never truly waterproofed. We take the room to the studs, replace what is failing, and rebuild the shower with a continuous waterproofing system and properly sloped drains.

02

Ventilation + moisture

Many older baths have no exhaust fan at all, or one that vents into the attic. We add ventilation sized to the room and ducted outside, and choose fixtures and surfaces that resist hard-water buildup and stay easy to clean in a hardworking, compact space.

03

Tile + stone installation

Out-of-square walls and uneven floors are common in older homes. Our installers correct the substrate first, then plan the layout so niches are centered, edges are balanced, and patterned or handmade tile looks intentional rather than forced into place.

04

One team, one schedule

Design, construction, and trade coordination stay with one accountable team on a single schedule. In a home with only one or two baths, that coordination keeps the project moving and the room out of service for as little time as possible.

Remodeling in Tucson

How a Tucson bath remodel unfolds.

Older central-Tucson homes add a few variables, but the sequence is always the same. Knowing what happens in each phase helps you plan around the work and understand why the hidden steps come first. It also explains where the budget goes: in older homes, much of the essential work happens inside the walls and floor.

Protection + demolition.

We protect floors and finishes, seal off the work area, and take the bath down to the framing. This is when older homes reveal past leaks, patched plumbing, or rot, and we correct them before building new. Dust barriers stay in place for the duration of the job.

Rough-in + waterproofing.

Aging supply and drain lines are replaced where needed, electrical and ventilation are brought up to date, and the shower is waterproofed and tested while everything is still visible. Inspections happen at this stage, before anything is covered.

Tile, fixtures + finish.

Tile is set on a flat, sound substrate, followed by the vanity, glass, and fixtures. We finish with paint and hardware, then walk the room together to confirm every detail. Punch-list items are tracked and closed out promptly.

After

Before + After

Same room, reworked from the studs.

In the Schneider primary bath, the clerestory window stayed, and nearly everything below it changed. Dark cabinetry and framed mirrors gave way to a lighter vanity, a full-width mirror, and a calmer palette that lets the desert light carry the room. The result feels larger and brighter without moving a single wall.

Tucson Questions

Bathroom remodeling in central Tucson.

Answers for owners of older Tucson homes planning a bath remodel. If yours isn’t here, bring it to your free consultation. We’ll gladly talk it all through.

Do you work throughout Tucson?

Yes — Tucson and the surrounding Tucson metro are core to our practice, and we know the local trades, suppliers, and permitting.

How much does bathroom remodeling cost in Tucson?

It depends on scope and finish level. We give every Tucson homeowner an honest, itemized budget range as part of the design phase — no vague ballparks.

Are you licensed and insured?

Fully licensed and insured in Arizona, and experienced with local inspection and HOA requirements common in Tucson.

How do we get started?

Book a free consultation. We’ll walk your Tucson home, talk through your goals, and outline a clear path and budget range.

What surprises are common in older Tucson bathrooms?

Aging supply and drain lines, out-of-square walls, and past repairs hidden behind tile. We plan for these and include allowances so they do not derail the budget.

What if our home has only one bathroom?

We plan the schedule carefully and talk through temporary arrangements before work begins, so the room is out of service for as short a time as possible.

Can we keep original tile or a cast-iron tub?

Sometimes. If original features are in good condition and suit the house, we can design around them or restore them.

Can a small bathroom feel bigger?

Often, yes. A curbless shower, a wall-hung vanity, a larger mirror, and better lighting can make a compact bath feel more open without moving walls.

Do you remodel baths in historic homes?

Yes. We work in older and historic central-Tucson neighborhoods and choose materials that suit the architecture of the house.

Can you add ventilation to an older bath?

Yes. We add an exhaust fan sized for the room and ducted outside, which protects the new finishes from moisture.

How long does a bath remodel take in an older home?

It depends on scope and what we find behind the walls. Once the design is final, we give you a realistic schedule and keep you informed at every stage.

Do you handle design as well as construction?

Yes. Our design team plans the room, and the same studio manages the remodel through the final walkthrough, so nothing is lost between drawings and build.

Should we replace old plumbing while the walls are open?

Usually, yes. Replacing aging supply and drain lines during the remodel costs far less than opening finished tile later.
