Our Process

A clear path from first conversation to finished space.

Five stages keep the work organized, the decisions visible, and each project moving with purpose.

How A Project Moves

Five steps, one continuous line.

From the first conversation to a documented, budgeted plan — you always know where the project stands and what comes next.

Most remodels stall in the gap between the designer’s drawings and the contractor’s bid. We close that gap by keeping design, documentation, and construction with one team, so the people who planned your space are accountable for how it’s built. Whether you’re planning a kitchen remodel, a bathroom remodel, or custom cabinets throughout the home, the same five steps apply — and every decision is made before demolition begins, not in the middle of it. Design-only clients get the same process and the same level of detail.

“The measure day alone caught two problems our last contractor missed. The budget they gave us at the end is the budget we paid.”

01

Consultation

Before anything is drawn, we sit down with you in the space itself. Who cooks, who works at the island, where the morning light falls, what frustrates you about the current layout — these answers shape every decision that follows. We also talk openly about budget range and timing, so the plan fits both the life you want and the investment you have in mind.

02

Onsite Measure

Once the goals are clear, we record wall lengths, ceiling heights, window and door openings, and the locations of plumbing, gas, electrical, and ventilation. Older Tucson homes often hide surprises — out-of-square walls, block construction, plumbing set in the slab — and finding them now protects your budget later. These measurements become the base drawings every later decision is built on, so cabinetry fits the first time and fixtures land exactly where they were planned. We also photograph existing conditions, so details can be checked later without another site visit.

03

Structural Design

With accurate drawings in hand, we decide what stays and what moves: walls that open up, doorways that shift, islands that change how people circulate through the room. We plan lighting in layers — task, ambient, and accent — and place storage where it is actually used. In a kitchen, that means clearances around the island and appliance doors; in a bath, shower size, vanity height, and door swing. We also look at how adjoining rooms connect, so the finished kitchen or bath feels like part of the house rather than an addition.

04

Finish Design

Countertop, backsplash, cabinetry, flooring, and hardware are chosen as one coordinated palette rather than one piece at a time. We bring samples to your home because Arizona sun changes how stone and wood read throughout the day — a finish that looks warm in a showroom can look very different beside a west-facing window. Every selection is recorded, priced, and tied back to the plan. We also weigh how each surface stands up to hard water, heat, and daily use, so what looks right on day one still looks right years later.

05

Documentation + Budget

The final package includes detailed drawings and a full specification of materials and fixtures, with a budget built from those exact selections rather than an estimate based on averages. Items with long lead times, such as custom cabinetry or special-order stone, are flagged early so ordering can begin before demolition does. When construction starts, the decisions are already made — which is what keeps the schedule steady and the final cost close to the plan.

Questions about the process.

Do you handle both design and construction?

Yes. We are a complete studio — we design, document, and build, so the same team is accountable from the first sketch through final installation. You can also engage us for design only.

Where do you work?

Throughout the Tucson metro: central Tucson, Oro Valley, Catalina Foothills, Dove Mountain, and Marana.

Is the first consultation really free?

Yes. There is no fee and no obligation to continue. If you decide to move forward, what we learn in that first meeting becomes the starting point for the onsite measure.

How long does a project take?

It varies by scope. After the measure and design phases we give you an honest schedule, and because one team runs the job, that schedule tends to hold.

Can I use my own contractor with your design?

Absolutely. Our documentation package is precise enough to price and build from, whether we build it or you bring your own team.

What should I prepare before the first consultation?

Nothing formal is required. It helps to gather photos of spaces you like, a short list of what isn’t working in your current room, and a budget range you’re comfortable with. If you have original house plans or paperwork from past remodels, bring those too — they can speed up the measure and design stages.

Why do you finalize the layout before choosing finishes?

Because layout decisions drive cost. Moving plumbing, removing a wall, or resizing a window affects the budget far more than choosing one tile over another. Settling the structure first lets every finish be priced accurately and keeps you from falling for materials that don’t fit the final plan.

How involved do I need to be during the process?

As involved as you like. Most clients join us at a few key decision points and let us handle the drawings, pricing, and coordination in between. We check in whenever a choice needs your input, so nothing moves forward without your approval.

What happens if something unexpected turns up during construction?

Surprises are less common because the onsite measure looks for them early. When one does appear, we explain the options and what each costs before work continues, so you stay in control of the budget.
